Fast-paced construction activity in Oman drives demand for hardwood: Dubai WoodShow 2015

Large number of Omani visitors expected at Middle East’s leading exhibition for wood and woodworking machinery from 14 – 16 April 2015 at Dubai World Trade Centre

Muscat, Oman, Dubai, UAE, 9 April 2015: The Dubai WoodShow 2015, the region’s top timber and wood machinery show, has generated stronginterest from Omani visitors in its 10th editionthat will be held from 14 – 16 April 2015 at the Dubai Word Trade Centre.

Organisers of the show attributed the increased interest tointensified construction activity in the Sultanate over the past few years, with the construction industry almost doublingthe contracts awarded — from an estimated $ 6,963 in 2013 to $ 12,648 million in 2014.

The buoyant construction sector in the Middle East and North African region will be one of the factors raising the importance of Dubai WoodShow 2015, a one-stop shop forinteraction betweentraders, investors and exporters.

Many related sectors, namely the hardwood sector, are witnessing higher demand, encouraging more foreign importers to explore opportunities in the Sultanate’s promising sector.

Josine Heijmans, Exhibition Director of the Dubai WoodShow 2015, says: “The National Vision 2020 in Oman aims at upgrading infrastructure and projecting Oman as an attractive tourist destination. This requires stronger economic performance, boosted by higher tourist arrivals and increased foreign direct investment, thereby benefiting all the sectors of the economy and primarily its construction sector, which in turn will fuel the wood industry.”

“A decade ago, Oman’s imports of forest products touched $ 74.1 million, but today the Sultanate imports a lot more than that. We anticipate this scenario to generate a higher turnout from Oman over three days,” added Heijmans.

As the region’s leading and only dedicated business-to-business meeting place for the wood, wood accessories and woodworking machinery industry, Dubai WoodShow 2014 attracted 8,349 high quality trade professionals from 95 countries across the globe.

This year’s edition of Dubai WoodShow enjoyed great demand from the industry for exhibition space and got sold out weeks before the show. The show welcomes many previous exhibitors and plenty of newcomers, along with the support of renowned international associations, which all are testaments to the emergence of the Dubai WoodShow as a true platform for opportunities and serious business for wood trade in the region.

Dubai WoodShow is also the showplace for the latest innovations and technologies and has become the platform of progress across the wood and woodworking sector for the region. Exhibiting at this event will connect major players with the rest of the wood industry worldwide. Specialized trade visitors who are knowledgeable, professionals and serious business buyers from all over the world will use the region’s leading trade fair as an opportunity to strengthen ties with new customers, make valuable new contacts and catch up on the latest trends and technological developments.
